  • After briefly studying architecture, Pierre Balmain began his illustrious career in fashion under the guidance of master couturiers Edward Molyneux and Lucien Lelong, working alongside Hubert de Givenchy and Christian Dior. In 1945, during the golden age of couture, Balmain opened his own eponymous label quintessentially Parisienne couture house with the objective “to always dress women in the right look for the right moment,”. His signature "jolie madame" aesthetic ushered in the "new french style" which became synonymous with opulence and Hollywood glamour, worn by starlets such as Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Marlene Dietrich, Sophia Loren, Katherine Hepburn, Josephine Baker and Brigitte Bardot who had been drawn to Balmain's boldly feminine designs. Over the years some of the most revered designers in the industry have taken the reins including Oscar de la Renta and Christophe Decarnin, each staying true to the original spirit of the house and updating it with a modern edge. In a similar fashion, current designer Olivier Rousteing has brought a new, confident energy to Balmain through his own sense of high-octane glamour, statement silhouettes, and a inimitably fierce attitude that typifies the #BalmainArmy.
